UAE: The oil-rich City of Dubai plans to build the world's first temperature-controlled metropolis, encompassing almost 4.5 million m2 (about 1,100 acres).
Located within the Mall of the World will be the world's largest indoor amusement park, which will be covered by a glass dome and open throughout the winter. The Dubai Holding-developed project would also feature the world's largest shopping mall, with an area of 8,000,000 ft2. The concept will involve a network of expanded retail streets, as opposed to the usual shopping mall model now accessible in Dubai.
The 7km long promenades connecting all amenities will be covered and air-conditioned in the summer and open in the winter, maintaining comfortable temperatures all year. A wellness devoted zone catering to medical tourists, a cultural celebration area, and a broad range of hospitality alternatives, including 100 hotels and serviced apartment complexes containing 20,000 hotel rooms, will be included in the proposal.
On the ground floor, the project will also contain allocated parking places with a capacity of up to 50,000 automobiles. The Dubai Cultural District will serve as the focal point for national and international cultural festivals and events in the UAE. A dedicated theatrical area features a variety of venues resembling some of the world's most famous monuments, including London's West End and New York's Broadway.
The Celebration Walk, modeled after Barcelona's Ramblas Street, will connect the cultural sector to the remainder of the Mall. Dubai Cultural District will comprise several conferences, weddings, and celebration venues that can accommodate thousands of revellers, reflecting Dubai's diversified social fabric. Once finished, the City promises to become a year-round destination, attracting over 180 million tourists each year.
